Life hack: soil block your tomatoes
I started doing this last year and it is a million times easier than having to pot up your tomatoes. Itβs one and done, they can go from this to straight in the ground. Get a cheap soil blocker from Amazon in a large block size (mine is 2x2 inches) Use seed starting mix and mix in some earthworm castings Add water and make your soil blocks Plant your seeds one per block Top off with a good layer of vermiculite Put under grow lights/on a heat mat if needed Water from the bottom Once seeds sprout, put close to the lights Add more vermiculite if you start seeing algae Water when blocks dry out Start watering with a diluted liquid fertilizer once they have two sets of true leaves Harden them off when theyβre big enough The roots will air prune and they will be the nicest little chunky starts that will be fine until you pop them in the ground. No muss no fuss and you save money having to pot them up with more soil and containers. Easiest way of growing tomatoes from seed I have found. Soil blocking doesnβt work for everything, but it is fantastic for tomatoes. Give it a try! submitted by /u/RainbowSnapdragons [link] [comments]
